From the TulsaWorld, 9/5/2011: "Tulsa neighborhood shooting leaves man dead"
"Police have released the name of a fatal shooting victim after a disturbance Sunday morning. James Edward Knapper Jr., 43, died at St. John Medical Center. Shortly after midnight, Tulsa Police received a call about a stabbing in the 3200 block of North Peoria. When police arrived, they found a man shot with a small caliber handgun. A caller stated that an incident occurred at the Soul Brothers Car Wash, 3200 N. Peoria, just south of the Tanzis Sports Bar, 3205 N. Peoria. The assailant and victim may have known one another and the shooting may have been the result of a neighborhood dispute, a police release states. The shooter is described as a black man, about 5-foot-8, 180 pounds and about 25 years old, police said."
From Newson9 / Newson6, 9/4/2011: "Police Identify Victim In Tulsa's 36th Homicide Of 2011"
"Tulsa Police are looking for information in the city's 36th homicide of 2011. A 43-year-old man was shot and killed after a fight with another man outside Tanzi Sports Bar, 3205 N. Peoria. The victim has been identified as James Edward Knapper Jr. Police believe Knapper may have known his killer, and the two men were involved in an ongoing neighborhood dispute. Just after midnight, an anonymous caller told police that a man had been stabbed at Soul Brothers Car Wash just south of the bar, and that witnesses were leaving the scene. When police arrived, they found a shooting victim instead. Knapper was quickly taken to the hospital where he died of his wounds. The suspect is described as a black male who is about 25 years old. He is 5'8" tall and weighs 180 pounds, according to Sergeant Dave Walker with the Tulsa Police Department. Police say the weapon used was a small caliber handgun. "Due to the lack of witnesses coming forward, there is little information on the motive or suspect description," Walker said in a news release. It's the second time shots have been fired near the bar on a holiday weekend this summer. Two men were shot outside Tanzi's on July 3."
James Edward Knapper's son, of the same name, was later unrelatedly arrested in 2015 for an infamous gang related drive-by shooting that left an innocent teenage girl dead. He had only been 14 at the time.
Due to his son's notoriety in the murder case of Deouijanae Terry (16), the murder case of the father hasn't gained much notice past the initial reports, and despite a description no one was ever identified as a suspect.
The sports bar and car wash has had atleast 4 other (likely) unrelated murders recorded on the property. They both have since been torn down and are vacant lots.
