| From the TulsaWorld, 3/15/2009: "Man, 30, shot to death during apparent robbery" "A 30-year-old man was fatally shot Saturday morning in what police believe may have been a botched robbery attempt. The shooting happened just before 5 a.m. Saturday in the 2700 block of East 28th Street North, said Sgt. Steve Stoltz of the Tulsa Police Department. Police identified the shooting victim as John Sango, who was found dead in the house with one gunshot wound to the chest.
"The working theory was it was a home invasion gone wrong," Stoltz said. The victim's fiancée, a male relative and the relative's girlfriend were all in the house at the time, but were not in the same area as the apparent altercation, Stoltz said. Many residents in the Ben Franklin subdivision, where the shooting occurred, said they didn't know the victim. Residents also said they didn't know details of the homicide as of Saturday afternoon, but that violence in the neighborhood has increased. Charles Brooks said his mother has lived in the subdivision for 32 years and contemplates moving.
"We knew something bad would eventually happen (in this area)," Brooks said. Brooks said the residents who lived in the house where the shooting took place moved into the neighborhood in December. Witnesses described the shooting suspect as a black man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a white T- shirt, according to police. He was armed with a handgun when he fled the scene Saturday morning. Saturday's shooting was the 12th homicide of the year in Tulsa." |
