| From the TulsaWorld, 10/25/2011: "Tip leads police to abandoned SUV, links to dead man" "Police located the vehicle belonging to a man found dead Sunday morning thanks to an anonymous tip, but the motive behind the slaying remains under investigation. The tip led detectives Sunday to an abandoned Ford Explorer that belonged to Terrance Jamond Jones, 36, who was found dead about 9 a.m. Sunday near the 3500 block of East Ute Street with multiple gunshot wounds. A family found Jones dead in their yard Sunday morning.
Tulsa Police Sgt. Dave Walker, lead homicide detective, said there is no apparent connection between Jones and the house or neighborhood in which he was found. "We think he just that's where he died," Walker said. Police announced they were looking for his vehicle Sunday and found it thanks to a tip from someone who saw the information in media reports. Walker said that finding the vehicle will help put some of the pieces together.
"We believe that's where he was shot," Walker said. "We believe finding the car needed that evidence." The vehicle was found in the parking lot of a business nearby, Walker said. Walker said it appears the man did not travel far from where he was shot to where he died. Detectives also believe he may have been shot sometime after 10 p.m. Saturday. However, a motive to the killing remains unclear.
Jones had a prior possession of a controlled substance conviction in Washington County in 1998, but has since had no other convictions, according to court and Oklahoma Department of Corrections records. Walker said detectives are still investigating whether the homicide was related to drugs. Jones' death was the 43rd homicide in Tulsa of 2011. Anyone with information about Jones' whereabouts Saturday night or anyone with suspect information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS, the homicide tip line at 918-596- 2677 or email cityoftulsa.org." |
